MarchFourth is not your typical marching band. What they do is perform high energy, horn and drum driven music with a passion and fervor and the spectacle that the 18 on-stage members create. Since their very first show at a Fat Tuesday party that Averill threw in Portland ten years ago aptly on March 4 , MarchFourth has been crafting the musical and performance elements of the group. There were eighteen thousand people out in the streets, and we marched around and played the same seven songs over and over and when we were done it was kind of exhilarating. I had never been a part of a march and playing a wireless bass with a battery powered amp being pushed on a cart was just too surreal to not try. The group has hired a booking agent, but they still do all its own publicity and management. They have also retro fitted their own bus to accommodate their outrageously large number of touring members.

While ignoring our public open meeting comments other than to suggest a continuing study may present useful results , OSU Board of Trustee Chairman Dr. Wadsworth proceeded to authorize a counterattack by press release. That counterattack suggested inaccurately once again that the Ohio State University Board of Trustees had taken action which in fact never occurred and that it had endorsed the irresponsible actions of President Drake towards the Marching Band and Jon Waters.
No action had been taken by this Board of Trustees. To suggest otherwise is to disregard, once again, the Ohio open meetings law. The Chair of the Board of Trustees simply has the power to preside at meetings not to substitute opinions for Board action. That handling has thoughtlessly brought about division and strife.

It may sound corny, but the people in band end up being like your brothers and sisters and make school a home away from home. The thing is, band ends up being a very dysfunctional family. Saturday 2 September This is not surprising bearing in mind the sexism of the left, but the same apologists often also remain silent about the indisputable fact that black, brown and indigenous women and girls all over the world are first in line to be bought and sold into prostitution. During extensive research for my book on the sex trade, I have met and interviewed women and men that are resisting the normalisation of racism within prostitution.

He wears tight often leather pants and a loose, blousy shirt that appears to be made for a much larger man, often with a bandana, scarf, or kerchief tied around his neck.

I find it offensive that this article portrays my hometown, El Reno, Oklahoma, as a community of bigotry and hatred. Although something like this undoubtedly did occur in the ‘s and things like this still happen in many cities across the nation even today, El Reno is not a place of prevalent racism. Moni Basu doesn’t grasp the kind of potential damage mainstream media can cause a small town like El Reno when it makes a claim without closing the circle and saying racism on this level does not exist there today.
The thing I love most about Tom is that he’s an unabashed romantic; macho stereotypes be damned, he’s in love and he’s going to shout it from the rooftops! Or at least do a choreographed dance to a Hall and Oates song with strangers on the street and an animated bluebird.
The first evidence of lyres were found in the Greco-Roman period on the Isle of Skye dating from BCE , making it Europe’s oldest surviving stringed instrument. Scottish folk music A detail from The Highland Wedding by David Allan , There is evidence that there was a flourishing culture of popular music in Scotland during the late Middle Ages, but the only song with a melody to survive from this period is the “Pleugh Song”.
There is also evidence of adoption of the fiddle in the Highlands with Martin Martin noting in his A Description of the Western Isles of Scotland that he knew of 18 players in Lewis alone. Some may date back to the late Medieval era and deal with events and people that can be traced back as far as the thirteenth century. Major performers included James Scott Skinner. This marginal status was changed by individuals including Alan Lomax , Hamish Henderson and Peter Kennedy , through collecting, publications, recordings and radio programmes.
Others totally abandoned the traditional element including Donovan and The Incredible String Band , who have been seen as developing psychedelic folk. Five Hand Reel , who combined Irish and Scottish personnel, emerged as the most successful exponents of the style.

What in God’s name are you doing?! The whole gang was gathered in my living room, attempting to pull me out of the comfort of my room. Bill just forced a smile, but didn’t help me. That’s odd, I thought. The group of losers filed out of my home, one by one. The eight of us then hurried towards the arcade on our bikes, desperate to outrun the heat of the summer sun.
I hitched a ride on the back of Richie’s bike, seeing that mine had been wrecked earlier in the summer by Richie, himself. Bill zoomed by on Silver, as fast as ever. God, what an adorable weirdo, I thought.

Blue crabs[ edit ] Blue crabs The most prominent example of Baltimore’s distinctive flavor is the city’s close association with blue crabs. This is a trait which Baltimore shares with the other coastal parts of the state of Maryland. Baltimore became an important hub of the crab industry. Many district shops even sell crab-related merchandise. Southern State cooks, Marylanders insist, boil crabs and along with it, boil away all the true flavor. The crabs are eaten on tables spread with old newspaper or plain brown wrapping paper.
The meat of the crabs is extracted with the use of wooden mallets, knives, and one’s hands. It is popular for cold beer to be thrown on the crabs during the steaming process, and made available afterwards. It is prepared by either broiling or frying. Baltimoreans typically do not use tartar sauce on their crab cakes; most either eat them plain, or with a dash of Worcestershire sauce and often on Saltine crackers.
